We had a taste of the countryside last week when Mortons Dairies brought their traditional milk float in to visit us!
Staff and pupils learned about milk, the cows it comes from and its health benefits, and we also enjoyed samples of dairy products.
Mortons Dairies has been delivering milk and groceries to neighbourhoods in Liverpool and the surrounding areas since the 1920’s. Julian Harrison, operations director of Mortons Dairies, said: “We’re delighted that our milkmen are able to help educate children in our local community about milk and the products we produce with it. It’s great to be able to let them sample some products and sit aboard our traditional milk float. Our milkmen are out in the early hours and many children never get the chance to see a real milk float in action.”
Greg Parker, Head Teacher, said: “We aim to immerse children in enjoyable learning experiences, so we were thrilled when the milkmen from Mortons Diaries offered to visit with their milk float. The children were excited to find out more about where their milk comes from and loved being able to see the traditional float.”
Happy New Year!
We had a super assembly on our first day back with a visit from the Mad Science Team.
They led a 45 minute session with lots of practical hands on activities for both children and staff - very useful for this term's projects, which are focused around practical science!
This term, LIPA Primary School have developed a partnership with the City of Liverpool College's PE Faculty.
Our Year 1 children visit on Wednesdays after school for a multi-skills PE session. The children are supervised by Year 1 teacher Mr Van Saarloos and Headteacher Greg Parker, and the sessions are over seen by Course Leader Stephanie Crane from the City of Liverpool College.
The sessions themselves are led by different groups of students gaining experience for a range of future careers – so far this term, the children have received training from sports coaches, students training for the public services and a national Tae-Kwan-Do champion.
Mr Parker says “The sessions have been really well received by the children, who benefit from the excellent facilities in the sports hall. As you can see from the picture, the sessions certainly bring fun into fitness!”
As part of Macmillan Cancer Support’s annual flagship fundraising event, World’s Biggest Coffee Morning, LIPA Primary School pupils held an afternoon of coffee, cake and creativity to raise an impressive £601.07 to support people affected by cancer.
Lisa Wild, Macmillan’s Fundraising Manager for Liverpool, Wirral and the Isle of Man, visited the school on Friday 4 December to receive a cheque, which was presented by Year 1 pupils at the school.
Speaking to the pupils at a special assembly, Lisa thanked them for all their hard work, which was especially impressive given that the school currently only has four classes – two in Reception and two in Year 1, making a total of 104 pupils. Lisa went on to tell the children a little about what Macmillan does to support people with cancer and their families, adding that the money raised by the school will help the charity as it aims to beat the record breaking £25 million that was raised through 2014’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning.
Greg Parker, Headteacher of LIPA Primary School, said “We are very proud of the hard work and generosity of our pupils and their families – not just in raising money for Macmillan, but also for all the other charity initiatives the children have been involved with. Together, we have learned how to take a single £1 coin and grow it – in this case, into 601 pound coins!”

Warm blankets
Brown packing tape
Hygiene items e.g. toothbrushes, toothpaste, soaps, sanitary towels, shampoos, anti-bacterial gels, nappies, deodorant and antiperspirant
The team also have a website for any donations to be sent to, here is the link if anybody would like to donate any money to help the refugees.

We have had a super time during our superhero training camp. The children have amazed us with their interest and enthusiasm.
Now it is time to graduate!
On Thursday 22nd October 2015, we will have a Superhero Graduation Day!
We would like the children to come to school dressed as any superhero - please do not worry about going to too much expense for this, as we have attached some examples of some DIY costumes.
The children will take part in various activities during the day and we would like to invite you to join us in our celebrations at 2.30pm.
We will share some of the work the children have been doing during our project and show off our costumes.
Thank you for all of your support for our first half term in Year 1.
