Learning through the creative and performing arts
Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment. If, as a parent of a pupil attending this school, you require a paper copy of the information on this website, we shall provide this free of charge upon request.
We have planned some events for parents which will take place very early into the new school year:
11th September – Welcome to Year 1 Parents Session (3.30pm)
12th September – Welcome to Year 2 Parents Session (3.30pm)
13th September – Welcome to Year 3 Parents Session (3.30pm)
Also, week commencing 11th September will be Roald Dahl Week in school.
We are delighted to have been awarded a Gold Level Liverpool Reading Quality Mark following a year-long project to create a positive reading culture around the whole school and show our pupils that reading is fun!
We done lots of things in the past year to get our children reading more – see how many of these you remember!
Our children wanted to be able to have the opportunity to go and read in the library during break times and lunch times, so a lunchtime library club has been set up where children lead their own reading in our library.
Reading Ambassadors have also had a strong influence on the choice of books purchased for the school and class libraries.
Our Staff share recommendations with pupils through displays in class and during the weekly timetabled Drop Everything And Read session.
Our Year 2 children have begun to buddy up and read with the Reception children.
All classes have weekly visits to the school library for independent reading.
Every week the teachers choose a star reader to receive a reading award in assembly and children are rewarded daily with reading stickers and praise. Also, every week the winner of the Attendance and Punctuality prize receive a book token worth £10.
We have invited the children to take part in the ‘LIPA Reading Challenge’ in the build up to World Book Day, with three awards: Bronze award – 10 books; Silver award – 20 books and Gold award – 50 books.
We have a comprehensive calendar of events linked to local / national / international initiatives such as World Book Day, Roald Dahl Day and National Storytelling Week. We’ve also developed more school-specific events, such as ‘Blind Date with a Book’
We have made strong links with Toxteth Library - all children have registered with the library and have library cards and staff each took out a class library card too.
We have also developed partnerships with other schools (Wavertree C of E Primary and Hesketh All Saints Primary) and invited them to visit and read with their children.
We have also run a Facebook campaign called #GetCaughtReading, showing our pupils reading their favourite books in a range of locations!
Book Club takes place every Wednesday after school and children from across the school get together to share a range of stories.
The school has also drawn on the knowledge and expertise of The Reader to support parents. A representative of The Reader attended Reading Oasis (the school’s library launch event) and then in turn the school were invited to The Storybarn at Calderstones.
The school have held a number of ‘Fab Fridays’ which are reading events for parents or carers. The school has also introduced half termly ‘Stay and Read’ sessions for parents and carers towards the end of the school day.
The school is also very lucky to be able to access LIPA’s Widening Participation, which enables them to work with past LIPA students in activities such as drama, dance and storytelling.
The school has invited local authors in for example Marie Darwin who wrote a book about Paul McCartney and this was part of their Magical Mystery Tour project.
The successful recent launches of the LIPA Primary School (2014) and the LIPA Sixth Form College (2016) have encouraged us to bid for our final free school to fill the gap between these two, providing a seamless transition for learners as they move from primary to secondary education.
The new free school, based close to our other facilities, would teach young people aged 11 – 16 and be part of the LIPA group replete with our learning strategies, facilities and our focus on the creative and performing arts.
During the first three high school years (years 7, 8 and 9), we will deliver the national curriculum, using project based learning and building on the successful methods employed at our primary school.
Once pupils reach the age of 14 (years 10 and 11) though, we will offer clear pathways combining core subjects of the national curriculum with more specialist ones including: Film & Media Production, Creative Digital Media Production, Dance, Musical Theatre, Visual Arts & Design, Digital Design, Music and Theatre.
Our admissions policy will be simple, open and reach out to our locality and wider region, while remaining fully inclusive. From September 2019 or 2020 we intend to admit 11 year-old children to Year 7, reflecting the start of secondary level education.
We believe there is support for the High School, with parents of pupils at the LIPA Primary School already asking us “what’s next?” But we would like to hear from more parents who are interested.
If you are, and to enable us to proceed with our plans, please head to www.lipahighschool.org for more details and to fill out the expression of interest form.
You may have heard in the press recently, or your child may have already mentioned to you about a forthcoming mass sponsored walk, which is taking place on Friday 19th May at 2pm at hundreds of schools up and down the country. Walk 4 Wildlife is an event that raises money for animal charities, both here in the UK and around the world.
We are delighted to support this very worthwhile cause and to be taking part in the walk, which also hopes to set a new Guinness World Record™ for the most people walking at the same time in an organised event. We will be raising money for Freshfields Animal Rescue. For more information about our chosen charity please visit www.freshfields.org.uk
Last Thursday, we had Jude Lennon from the Bobby Colleran Trust come into school to talk to the children at our assembly.
Jude has recently published her second 'Super Bob' book and during her visit read her book to the children.
The first book focuses on general road safety while the new book is about careless and dangerous parking outside schools.
Our Reception classes visited Farmer Ted's farm last week.
They met lots of different kinds of animals and had a lovely time in the beautiful weather.
Thank you to all our helpers to help make a very successful day.
On Friday, 19th May, from 6pm, LIPA Primary School will be hosting an Art Auction to raise funds in order to purchase suitable playground equipment for the children. The art works for auction will be on view on Thursday, 18th May, at LIPA Primary School from 5 - 6.30pm.
We have worked proactively to raise over £15,000 to install artificial grass and have a very supportive Parent Teacher Association called LIPA Friends who work hard to raise funds for our school. They are helping with the Art Auction which is being arranged with local Liverpool artists.
We hope that you will take the time to attend the Art Auction evening which will include wine and nibbles. Please feel free to let others know who you think would be interested in attending.
Paul Bradshaw delivered an e-safety session for parents earlier this term.
The images attached are from his presentation, and contain really useful information about a range of issues linked to e-safety. Please take time to read them to help you be better informed on how to help your child stay safe online.
