We received confirmation last week that the Secretary of State has agreed to enter into a Funding Agreement with LIPA Primary School.
This is fantastic news and allows us to press on ahead of our opening in September. We recently appointed our first two teachers who will start officially from September but will be working with me from this point. Also, our fantastic new building will be undergoing refurbishment work from June.
We have now confirmed our term dates for the first year.
These can be found in the 'Term Dates' and 'Calendar' sections of the website.

On Thursday 27th March we held a LIPA Primary School Update meeting for the parents of children who are starting with us in September 2014.
The event was held at LIPA and also gave parents the opportunity to meet our Governors. Greg, our Head teacher was able to provide updates about our new building, the appointment of our teachers and the Public Consultation. Greg was also able to report that we are now full for September 2014 with over 40 people having expressed an interest for their child to come to the school in September 2015. This is fantastic news for the school.
The evening was a great success and will be the first of other similar events before the school opens in September. Lots of our new children were able to attend and it was great to see many new friendships forged during the evening.

This is a really exciting time for LIPA Primary School. Our curriculum planning for the first year has been completed and we are looking forward to refurbishing our modern and beautifully positioned school building very soon. We are also intending to advertise for our two Reception teachers in March. You may also be aware that we have been undertaking a Public Consultation during the past few weeks and the support for the Primary School has been overwhelming. The school will open in September 2014 with two Reception classes and the will grow with two new classes in each year group through to Year 6.
We believe all children should receive outstanding teaching from expert and well qualified teaching staff. We will ensure that the creative and performing arts are used to enhance children's experiences across the curriculum to develop their learning. Our school will be a vibrant and exciting place to learn, where children are happy, engaged, motivated and well behaved. We will want children to enjoy and take part in the creative and performing arts and use this as stimulus for learning across the wider curriculum.
LIVERPOOL residents are invited to give their views on LIPA Primary School, a free school which opens in the city this September.
A public consultation is being held from February 3 to March 14, the results of which will be published and used to help fine-tune plans for the school.
Informal drop-in sessions hosted by head teacher Greg Parker are being held on February 13 and March 1. They take place at The Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA), on Mount Street, which is launching the school in partnership with Edge Hill University.
As part of the curriculum, pupils will be immersed in the creative and performing arts to promote the early development of literacy and numeracy.
Greg, a teacher and teacher trainer from Warrington with 20 years of experience, said anyone interested in the school is welcome to come along.
Greg said: “This is a great opportunity for people in Liverpool to have their say on this exciting project. A school is a key part of any community and as such we’re keen on hearing people’s views and thoughts on what we’re doing. Anything new like this is going to generate questions: we’re here to answer them and to listen to comments, observations and suggestions.”
The launching of the school – one of over 100 given the green light by the Department of Education in May 2013 – is the latest chapter in the history of LIPA, which was co-founded by Mark Featherstone-Witty OBE and Sir Paul McCartney in 1995 to provide the best teaching and learning for people who want to pursue a lasting career in the arts and entertainment industry.
Sharon Gray, named Teacher of the Year at the 2013 Pride of Britain Awards, in recognition of her work as head teacher of Netherfield Primary School in Nottingham, is helping develop the curriculum.
The school plans to open in September 2014 in the Dean Walters Building on Upper Duke Street (L1 7BT]), near LIPA’s central Liverpool campus. It will start with two Reception year classes.
*The informal drop-in sessions will be held at LIPA on Thursday 13 February 2014, from 4pm to 7pm, and on Saturday 1 March 2014, from 10am to 1pm.
*To participate in the consultation process please visit www.lipa.ac.uk. The consultation period ends at 5pm on March 14 2014.
